I love the month of May for many reasons. The first is coming next week. Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican – American holiday commemorating the Mexican victory over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. It is a day to celebrate Mexican heritage and culture by, well everyone, and enjoy the wonderful food, music and colorful festivities that go along with this day. It is a reminder of the great contributions to Colorado and all of America that the Mexican culture has added to our tapestry of multi cultural threads that makes this country so strong and so diverse. It is the first holiday we can get outside and celebrate good weather and friends and family, and after this long cold, wet winter. I am so glad to get outside and I welcome some celebrating. Head over to 9th Street Plaza the evening of Friday,  May 5th and 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday, May 6th for Greeley’s Cinco De Mayo celebration.

On May 13, is another opportunity to get out and about at the 26th Annual Erie Town Fair, from 10 to 4 in Downtown Erie. The Weld Dems along with the Boulder County Dems will have a booth, so stop by and visit! We are also looking for some help to staff the booth. If you are interested in helping, give the Dem’s office a call at 970-351-7047.

If you missed the Century Cub soiree, you missed a great event! The turn out was great and it was wonderful to get together with Weld Dems we hadn’t seen all winter. I want to thank the Events Committee for putting on such a great affair. Thanks to all who contributed food and set up equipment, helped clean up, etc. We have such a dedicated group of hardworking people that sometimes it seems effortless, but I know how much effort it takes and I am so grateful to all who put this and all our events together. This is one of our big fundraisers, and we did get a nice boost to our donations. Did you know, that if you are a monthly sustaining member to the Weld County Democrats, you can attend these events for free? We love our sustaining donors and knowing we have that stable support helps us plan for many of our events and helps our candidate support as well as keeps the lights on in the office. If you have not considered being a sustaining donor, please consider going to Act Blue and setting up a reoccurring donation today.

As we head into the summer season, there will be lots of events that you can attend, help out or get involved with. We will need volunteers for parades and events and we hope to participate with our multi-county neighbors with their events as well, so there is bound to be an event near you that needs your help. We will be providing an events list soon and we really hope you can get involved.

If you would like to be a volunteer, and are not on our volunteer roster, you can fill out a form on our website or call our office at 970-351-7047. We desperately need precinct organizers and volunteers for our many committees. As a Weld County Democrat, you are also always welcome to attend our Weld County monthly meetings, usually virtual, the fourth Thursday of the month if you want to know what the party is doing. Just call for a zoom link and register to attend.
