RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE STRIKING JBS WORKERS
WHEREAS: The JBS workers, through their union United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 7R have attempted to reach a contract with JBS in good faith;
WHEREAS: The JBS workers have been without a contract since July 2025;
WHEREAS: JBS has given the JBS workers defective equipment while making the workers pay for the equipment;
WHEREAS: JBS workers are often treated badly, including the denial of restroom breaks and failure to replace defective equipment;
WHEREAS: JBS workers come from all over the world and deserve to be treated with respect;
WHEREAS: Any profits that JBS makes are a result of the workers’ work.
BE IT RESOLVED:
- That JBS negotiate in good faith with UFCW Local 7R;
- That the wages paid to the JBS workers be sufficient to A. account for the dangerousness of the work, B. cover the increased cost of living and health care, C. be able to save for retirement, D. allow the JBS workers to not just survive but thrive;
- That JBS workers have a pension that gives them credit for every day worked and that gives the JBS workers a dignified retirement;
- That JBS cover the costs of any protective equipment for the JBS workers AND take affirmative steps to insure worker safety.
