RELEASE: Colorado Democratic Party’s Statement on
the Vote to Pass President Trump’s Big Ugly Bill
DENVER — In response to the House of Representatives’ vote to pass President Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib issued the following statement:
“Today, Colorado House Republicans joined their colleagues in voting to screw over every working class American family by passing Trump’s Big Ugly Bill. Gabe Evans, Lauren Boebert, Jeff Hurd and Jeff Crank showed all of Colorado who they really are: grifters who would rather bail out billionaires than help working people who are struggling to get by because of their economic policies.
Gabe Evans and Jeff Hurd had the chance to be on the right side of this disaster and stand up to their king and preserve these crucial social programs we all rely on. Instead, they bent the knee after flirting with standing up for Coloradans.
This billionaire-first budget bill is a robbery in broad daylight, and they’re shameless about it — every Republican, Democrat, and unaffiliated voter will be hurt by this legislation so that billionaires can enjoy yet another handout from the government.
After President Trump signs this bill, many Coloradans will soon see their health insurance and food assistance vanish. In their communities, rural hospitals will close and economic opportunity will continue to shrink.
We are thankful for all the members of our Democratic Congressional delegation who did everything they could to stop this trainwreck. Our fight to keep our country on the right track continues. We cannot and will not give up.”
This is what Gabe Evans, Lauren Boebert, Jeff Hurd and Jeff Crank voted for…
- Ripping health care away from more than 225,000 Coloradans and putting the coverage of more than 1 million Coloradans in total at risk
- Stripping food assistance from 243,000 Coloradans
- Take at least $1,200 out of the pockets of older Coloradans
- Putting six rural Colorado hospitals at risk of closure
- $1.3 billion more in increased energy bills in one decade, an average increase of $500
- 15,500 Colorado jobs lost by 2030, 10,100 more by 2035
- $15 billion wiped from Colorado GDP in one decade
- A $190 million battery plant, which would have been built in Gabe Evans’ district, cancelled its construction, taking the 332 jobs it would have given Brighton with it
