The process to nominate candidates for the Colorado State Primary Election begins with a virtual caucus meeting on March 5, 2022 at 10 a.m. Caucus meetings are when Democratic precinct members in Weld County get together to elect Precinct Organizers and delegates to the virtual Weld County Assembly on March 26 at 10 a.m. Caucus meetings are also where volunteers are recruited to serve as election judges, poll watchers and to be volunteers to support party activities during the year. Each precinct member is able to submit resolutions to the party platform.
To be eligible to participate in caucus activities you must be a registered voter, affiliated with the Democratic Party and must have your voter registration updated with any change of address by Friday, February 11, 2022. Also, pre- registered 16 or 17 year-olds who want to vote as a Democrat by that time, may participate in voting at caucus and assembly meetings in addition to serving as a Precinct Organizer. (See the Secretary of State website to make changes to your voter registration.)
Some of the changes to the caucus process this year are that they will be held virtually, no preference polls will be taken and anyone who attends caucus is eligible to be selected as a delegate to County Assembly. Only those who attend caucus can go on to the County and other higher Assemblies. No proxies are allowed to attend County Assembly. Lastly, precinct committee people are now called Precinct Organizers!
- Elect 2 Precinct Organizers who provide leadership for the precinct.
- Elect delegates to the Weld County Assembly – March 26, 2022, 9 am Registration and 10 am Convenes (Virtual) or Multicounty Assemblies – April 5-8 TBA. The number of Delegates will be determined by a delegate allocation formula and delegates will go as uncommitted. (No preference poll for candidates will be taken until the Assembly.)
- Recruit 2022 election judges, poll watchers and volunteers.
- Consider platform items to be forwarded to the county assembly.
