"A man who was a true rarity in Weld County -- a Democrat who twice won political office -- died Wednesday [October 13] while working out at a health spa.

Warren Lasell, 67, died doing something he loved, his family said. He was on a treadmill at Work Out West and was running when his heart apparently gave out. He was an avid runner and had competed in eight marathons.

In 1990, as a Democrat in a strongly Republican county, Lasell ran for Weld County assessor and won. He was re-elected four years later, then had to quit after eight years because of term limitations. ..."
