Outreach Duties (Colorado Democratic Party)

OUTREACH/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE

OUTLINE OF GOALS/AGENDA

Development/Implementation/Outreach

Duties of the Committee:

1. Develop and Implement Affirmative Action Plan, including Outreach and representation goals in state delegation for underrepresented groups

2. Implementing a Financial Assistance Program for delegates and alternates

3. Setting of Dates to conduct educational workshops in each district, including dates, times and locations.  Note: These workshops must be held in places which are easily accessible for people with disabilities.

4. Designation of a Speaker’s Bureau of Volunteers from the Affirmative Action Committee comprised of individuals who are fully familiar with the process, will be organized to appear and secure others who are familiar with the process to appear before groups as needed.
 

5. Outreach to community leaders within the Party’s constituencies to make sure that information regarding the delegate selection process is available to Democratic Clubs and Party Caucuses representing specific constituencies.

6. Compile list of media outlets to receive information regarding the delegate selection process.

Volunteer to help with media relations

Earlier this year the Communications and Technology Committee develed a “Wish List” of needs and opportunities.  If you have skills that would help with these tasks, volunteer now.

Communication development
*Coordinate proactive media/PR campaigns (to support Weld Democratic issues.)
*Prepare/write news releases about Weld Democrats events, people and successes
*Help write letters to editor/guest columns on current political issues and to tell the Weld Democratic Party story
*Coordinate mechanisms for rapid response to articles and stories
Message development
*Assist in developing communications and message points specifically in response to media coverage of current events.
*Prepare or localize Democratic message points for media-trained Weld Democratic leaders.
*Create opportunities for these leaders/elected officials to speak to the media.
*Prepare or localize Democratic message points for all Weld Democrats for over-the-fence communications with family, friends and neighbors.
Media relations
*Help leaders answer questions and do interviews with the media to tell the Democratic story & build the Weld Democratic brand to help win elections
*Conduct media training with Weld Democratic leaders, elected officials and candidates.
*Build relationships with key Weld County media members with the goal of becoming a resource on political topics.
*Work with Weld Democratic elected officials and party leadership to be on message on current events and breaking news topics/issues
*Track local media coverage and keep Weld Democrats executive leadership, staff (& others as needed) informed on current news/trends where Dems may want coverage
*Review/track newspapers/radio/media websites, etc for opportunities pertaining to the Weld Democrats
*Compile contact information and a short bio for every editor and reporter working for a daily, weekly or periodic newspaper or radio or TV outlet with influence in Weld.
*Create a “Candidate’s Guide to Weld County Media Outlets” for future candidates
